---->>>FLIGHT DELAYS!!
Recently, Mathplane has been experiencing slow page loads.
Sorry for the delays. We are working on the traffic and server issues.
Thank you for your patience and persistence!
The tutorial continues to explore features of the Ti nspire cx cas calculator. The tasks below review features presented in previous tutorials. Also, they introduce basic graphing tools.
16) Graphing -- parabola/quadratic
Tasks: Graph the function:
Then, identify the zeros (x-intercepts) using tables and graphing tools.
"home" (On)
Select the light blue graph icon on the screen
"enter"
At the bottom of the screen, input the function/equation
x ^ 2 (space) + 5 x + 4

**Cool Feature: as you type in the terms, if you press the right arrow, you can see the progress of the graph!!

"enter"
The output: a graph of a parabola
Then, to find the zeros:
Method 1:
"menu"
7: Table
1: Split screen table
at -4 and -1, the outputs are 0 in the table (those coordinates are the zeros)
"menu"
2: Table
1: Remove Table
Method 2:
"menu"
6: analyze graph
1: zero
press mouse keypad; then, move cursor over the graph (shading the x-intercept), press mousepad again.
the coordinate will appear
17) Graphing -- Conic
Task: Graph a circle with center (4, -2) and radius 5
"On/Home" Select the blue graph icon ("enter")
The display: A coordinate plane
(bypass the empty function and cursor at the bottom)
"menu"
3: Graph entry/edit
2: Equation
3: Circle
1: (x - h)^2 + (y - k)^2 = r^2 (standard form of a circle)
fill in the boxes with h, k, and r values:
left box: 4
middle box: (-) 2
right box: 5
"enter"
The Output: Circle centered in the quadrant IV
Note: to identify properties of the conic,
"menu"
6:analyze graph
8: analyze conics
Move cursor over the conic to see properties

Note: To view the previous graph, press "ctrl", then the left arrow on the mouse keypad!

18) Graphing -- Adding another function
Task: Add the line y = x - 3 through the circle in the graph
The display: Circle graph (from task 17)
"menu"
3: Graph entry/edit
2: Equation
1: Line
1: y = mx + b
In the boxes, input
1 (slope) and (-) 3 (intercept/b)
"enter"
The output: A line intersecting the circle
Then, to find the points of intersection (i.e. the solutions):
"menu"
6: Analyze the graph
4: Intersection
Shade the areas (covering the intersections)
"enter" (press the mousepad)
The display: coordinates of the intersections appear

**Note: To recall a previously entered function, try the up and down arrows on the keypad to recall saved equations!

19) Help key and suggestions
Task: Review the features!
"On" (Home)
"A Calculate"
Workspace appears
"ctrl" "trig" (blue question mark with a circle around it)
Help text appears on screen...
Read and scroll to the bottom...
Then, click "esc" to return to main screen...
Then, type "ctrl" "trig" again..
Another help text appears on screen...
Scroll and read the contents...
20) Turn off the unit!
"ctrl"
"home/on" button
